On a hot summer afternoon there is nothing like a cold beer to cool you off. Here in the Charlottesville area there are several breweries that we really like to visit for just this purpose. Here’s just a sampling – in no particular order.
- Blue Mountain Brewery – a short drive outside of Charlottesville in Afton. This
brewery started as a small one room operation when we first moved to Charlottesville. It has grown to be one of the largest in the area – serving great beer and good food. We love their Klotsch 151, Full Nelson and Classic Lager. Of course their seasonal beers are wonderful as well. These beers go nicely with one of their pizzas, burgers, or sandwiches.
- Three Notch’d Craft Kitchen & Brewery – downtown Charlottesville in the IX building. How about a crisp refreshing American pale ale, an Irish red, stout, a fruity gose or one of their many other types of beers? Enjoy their Craft Kitchen serving up burgers, sandwiches and snacks.
- Starr Hill – short drive from our inn in Crozet. They are an independent craft brewery that has won more than 20 awards for their beers. They will be opening a tap room in downtown Charlottesville next year. We particularly like their golden ale and their pale ales. They have seasonal beers and sours as well.
- Random Row – downtown Charlottesville. “Neighborhood” brewery producing
small batch craft beers, everything including West Coast IPA, stout, assorted lagers and sours. They even have pub food to enjoy with your beer.
We hope you can find time to visit Charlottesville and one of these breweries this summer (or fall or winter or next spring).
