It’s time for our semi-annual restaurant week post to go along with the fantastic, semi-annual restaurant week that takes place each year in Charlottesville! It’s quickly becomes our favorite time of year when restaurant week hits. Whether we’re in the chill of mid-January or the heat of mid-July, restaurant week comes along to make the week so much better (and more delicious!)
Restaurant week January 2019 will start on Saturday the 19th and go til Saturday the 26th- plenty of opportunities to try a few menus!
How does it work? There are two price options, a 29 dollar menu and a 39 dollar menu, and most restaurants participate at one price point. You ask for the restaurant week menu when you get there and enjoy a three course meal at an amazing price!
As usual, we’re here to briefly talk about our picks for each category.
Our 29 Dollar Choices
Tilman’s is a wine bar and cafe on the Downtown Mall, and we love the idea of enjoying restaurant week here. They even have put together a wine flight you can purchase to pair with whatever you choose as your meal! Tilman’s specializes in their cheese and sandwiches, so I kept this in mind as I looked at the menu! The Spanish Cheese Board sounds like a great first choice, and I like the sound of the Porchetta Panini for a second course. For dessert, the brown butter orange cake sounds delightful!
Maru, also a restaurant on the Downtown Mall, has Korean inspired food that is quite delicious! It’s another great choice for a $29 dollar menu. The dumplings are delicious and a great appetizer choice. The Dolsot Bibimbap looks like a great main course option, and the Bingsoo, a Korean shaved ice dessert, looks like the perfect sweet ending.
Our 39 Dollar Choices
Brasserie Saison has been one of our top choices for the week over the past year or two. It’s a delicious french inspired spot that always tries to choose local and in season with their food sourcing. The menu for restaurant week looks amazing, but I think I’d have to go with the fried calamari for an appetizer and the Coq Au Vin for the entree. It comes with a purple potato puree and jus, which I think sounds fantastic. I also don’t think I’d be able to pass up the seasonal gelato for my dessert option. Check out the menu to see all of the options for yourself!
Maya is another great option for the 39 dollar menu. They serve delicious southern food with a fancier food than you typically get with a southern style venue. The shrimp and grits sounds like a lovely starter, and the spiced duck breast is a delicious option for “supper” (what they are calling their second course.) I especially love the option of peanut butter fluff pie for dessert!
These four restaurants are just some of our choices for restaurant week, but there are several options for participating restaurants that we love! Check out the full menu for restaurant week here.
