Fall is a favorite time in Charlottesville for locals and visitors. The foliage lights up the city with colors and the weather is absolutely perfect most days. We hope you’ll join us at the Inn for a little getaway this fall to relax and enjoy beautiful Charlottesville! If you’re in Charlottesville this fall, we’ve made you a bucket list. We think these are the best things to do in the fall in the area, and we look forward to checking them off our list!
A Trip to Carter’s Mountain
Apple picking, hayrides, hard cider from bold rock, a farm shop, warm apple cider and apple cider donuts, wine tastings, and beautiful fall views of Charlottesville from the top of the mountain make Carter’s Mountain a must-visit for the fall. It’s a mountaintop orchard experience that shouldn’t be missed!
Wine or Cider and Fall Views
So many of the local cideries and wineries have fantastic, beautiful views. For cider, we recommend Bold Rock. The view is one of our favorites in the area. For wine? It’s hard to choose, so we’ll go local to the Inn. Anything in Crozet or White Hall will do, especially King Family and Grace Estate. Crisp air, outdoor seating, and a drink with a colorful view is a great way to enjoy a relaxing, fall day.
New to Charlottesville this fall, the Ale Trail is a pedestrian brewery trail that will guide you to the breweries in the city. Take a walk to a few of the local brew spots, enjoy downtown Charlottesville in the fall area, and of course great, fall, local beer. Many of the breweries on the trail also have fantastic food. We suggest Three Notch’d and Brasserie Saison specifically!
Festivals!
Fall is also festival season in Charlottesville! Here are some of our favorites to attend:
The Heritage Harvest Festival– September 22
Tomtober Fest– September 29
Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival– October 6 & 7
Pumpkin picking at Critzer’s Family Farm and a beer at Blue Mountain afterwards
Head to Critzer’s Family Farm and pick your own pumpkins to decorate your home festively. Then, enjoy a fall beer and views at Blue Mountain Brewery, right across the street! They also have great food.
A UVA Football game and a fall walk around campus, before or after.
UVA games are one of our favorite parts of fall in Charlottesville! Enjoy the festive, Charlottesville UVA culture and walk around the beautiful campus before or after, depending on when the game is.
You can also enjoy the buzzing vibe of The Corner (restaurants and bars near the college) by grabbing lunch or dinner there on game day!
