Your Guide to a 2 Day Trip to Charlottesville, Virginia

If you’re here in Charlottesville for two days, at any time of year, and you aren’t sure where to start to have a full Charlottesville experience, let this post be your guide! We’ve rounded up our favorite things to do in most seasons- and if we’ve chosen something season specific? Don’t fear- we have another option for you!

Your 48 Hours in C’Ville Guide

Day 1

Morning– When you stay with us, you won’t have to worry about breakfast options, because we’ll serve you a three course breakfast just as you wake up. You’ll be sustained and ready for a few hours of exploring! We tend to think our breakfast is of the best in Charlottesville, and our guests have confirmed this!

After breakfast, a hike is in order. And why not choose a hike that will take you to one of the spots we recommend checking out most while you are in town- Monticello. Whether you are a history buff or not, C’ville is known for being the home of Thomas Jefferson’s estate. We recommend knocking this experience off your schedule and starting off your trip right!

First, walk the main path of the Saunders-Monticello trail and enjoy the scenery, and you’ll end up at Thomas Jefferson’s estate. You’ll have a nice walk on your way back, too. If you want to skip the walk, there is of course parking right near the estate.

Lunch– For lunch, and an afternoon coffee break, head to Belmont, nice and close to Monticello, and enjoy a casual lunch and cup of coffee at La Taza.

After lunch, and maybe a quick nap at the Inn, we know you’ll be excited to explore downtown Charlottesville on your first day here. Check out the Downtown Mall. If you’re here on a Saturday, wait til the morning and head to the City Market (April through December). Any other day, we recommend a late afternoon stroll and shopping, and then dinner at one of our favorite places, Brasserie Saison.

Want a drink after dinner? Depending on what you like, there are great options! Right downtown, you can enjoy The Alley Light, a speakeasy style bar that makes wonderful cocktails. If you’d rather check out a local brewery, you can head to Champion or Three Notch’d, both very close to the Downtown Mall where you enjoyed dinner!

After a long day of adventuring and enjoying Charlottesville, it’s time to head back to the Inn to sleep on our fantastically soft sheets.

Day 2

Again, this morning, we’ll be serving you a big breakfast to start your day off deliciously. Enjoy a slow morning eating and enjoying company, and then be ready for a walk around UVA’s campus.

The campus is a beautiful and historical part of Charlottesville. You can grab a cup of coffee (if you didn’t already get your fill at the Inn) at The Corner Joe or Grit and take a leisurely walk.

For your late morning/ early afternoon, we’re giving you some choices:

Choice one: If you enjoy a more challenging, active day, we recommend heading out to Humpback Rocks. This is weather permitting of course. You’ll climb for about 30 minutes or so to a beautiful view of the blue ridge mountains. Then, on your way back to the Inn, it’s time to enjoy some food and drinks after a tough hike. Stop at Blue Mountain Brewery for a great lunch (their pizzas are fantastic for sharing) and some local craft beer. You may as well stop at King Family Vineyards before you get back to the Inn, too!

Choice two: If you’re not into the hike, it’s wine tasting day for you! Check out our winery blogs (one is here, but you can search wine on the blog site to find more) that can help you pick out a few you might want to try. And feel free to ask us for more recommendations. Some wineries have food available, so you can get lunch, and others, you can bring lunch with you. We recommend Bellair Market or Greenwood Gourmet Grocery for sandwiches to take with you!

If you are wanting to try several wineries, we recommend booking a tour! Here are some options we’ve written about in the past.

After all that, we know you’ll be wanting a nap at the Inn, so head on back, enjoy a nap or just some tea and relaxation.

For your evening, it’s time to head out to another part of C’Ville, and again, we’re giving you two options:

First, if you’re feeling creative, or even feeling a shopping spree, head to Stonefield. Eat at Burger Bach, then head to Muse for a painting and wine night. Forego the paint night for a movie night or just some shopping.

Your second choice is to head out to Crozet for a small town feel, BBQ, and mountain views. Eat at Smoked (one of our favorites) and enjoy rooftop mountain views plus a cocktail at The Rooftop.

Honestly, it was hard for us to write this guide. There are about a thousand things we love to do in our city, so we had to narrow it down to just a few. We know this packed-full-weekend would be tiring, but it would also give you a great, full experience of Charlottesville!

We hope you’ll stay with us and enjoy this fun two day getaway that will really give you a taste of what C’Ville has to offer!
