Sure, President’s Day may be overshadowed by Valentine’s Day as the most celebrated February holiday. Still, if you are fascinated by our country’s history and past presidents, it may be a holiday you want to start celebrating. How to celebrate President’s Day, you ask? A weekend trip to Charlottesville is perfect!
If you have a three day weekend specifically for President’s Day or just want a quick weekend getaway during the month to see historic presidential spots, Charlottesville needs to be your destination. Here’s a list of Presidential houses and estates you can visit, all within an hour of Charlottesville:
–Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello– Right in Charlottesville, VA, Thomas Jefferson’s beautiful Charlottesville estate is one of the main reasons our guests visit Charlottesville.
–James Monroe’s Highland– Also in Charlottesville, visit the historic home of James Monroe.
–James Madison’s Montpelier– In Orange, VA, less than an hour from Charlottesville, you can visit James and Dolley Madison’s home.
–Woodrow Wilson’s Presidential Library and Museum– In Staunton, VA, about an hour from C’Ville, visit Woodrow Wilson’s birthplace.
With four presidential homes nearby, you could take a weekend trip and easily hit three of them (the two Charlottesville estates in one day, and a farther out presidential spot another day). On a three day weekend, you could visit all four!
We hope you’ll stay with us this February and visit these presidential spots to celebrate President’s Day!
