December is a busy but “most wonderful” time of the year- especially in Charlottesville! As soon as December starts, so do holiday and winter festivities. All of these events make it a great time to visit and stay with us at the inn! If you do, here are some events we think sound fun throughout the month that you might enjoy while you are here.
Grand Illumination– December 1st. Enjoy a light up night at Central Place on the Downtown Mall. You’ll see over 20,000 LED lights illuminate the mall and enjoy other holiday festivities, like a free showing of The Christmas Story at The Paramount with free popcorn. This event is always a great way to celebrate the start of the season! Friday.
Holiday Parade– December 2nd. Starting at 9:30am, the annual Holiday Parade will take place at the Barracks Road Shopping Center. It starts near the Harris Teeter, and you may want to grab a spot early. See floats, Santa (of course), horse drawn carriages, and more to celebrate the start of the Christmas season. Bonus: you can go shopping for your gift list immediately after at all the great shops at Barracks Road! Saturday.
Let there be Light– December 9th. At 6pm, head to PVCC and see a display of light-centric art lighting up the campus created by local and regional artists. This is the tenth year of this event, and viewers are encouraged to bring a flashlight. You can also enjoy hot drinks and shelter from the cold (if the weather happens to be cold, that is) indoors. This is sure to be a unique, artistic display, so don’t miss it! Friday.
McGuffey’s Winter Celebration– December 9th. If you like art, both viewing it and creating it, this is the perfect winter event for you. At McGuffey Art Center you can enjoy live music, open studios, hands on art projects for both kids and adults, and donuts from a local donut shop, Carpe Donut. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a day full of creating and appreciating art. Saturday.
Kelly Pickler and Phil Vassar, A Christmas Tour– December 23rd. Spend the night at The Paramount enjoying the music of Kelly Pickler and Phil Vassar singing holiday songs along with their own hits and their new collaboration, “The Naughty List.” Both artists have several top country hits, and the concert will be the perfect way to enjoy some country music and holiday music all in the same night. Saturday.
CVille’s Big Night: NYE– December 31st. This is just one of the festivities in Charlottesville for New Year’s Eve, we’ll post about the rest later this month! Beginning at 8pm, ring in 2018 at Carver Recreation Center with a great party complete with heavy appetizers, drinks from Hardywood, Bold Rock, Belle Isle, and Stone Mountain Vineyards. There will also be a casino room, dance floor and DJ. This is bound to be a great night to celebrate the new year! Sunday.
These are just a few of the many events going on in December in Charlottesville, and later in the month we will highlight even more festive events! Which of these events sounds most fun to you? We’d love to hear what you think you’d enjoy!
