If you’re in Charlottesville anytime between July 14th and July 23rd, and if you love good food, you’re in luck! Charlottesville Restaurant Week is here, and it is a great way to eat your way through some of our favorite restaurants without spending a ton of money on your dinner. Plus, it is all for a good cause, as one dollar of each Restaurant Week meal purchased goes to the Blue Ridge Food Bank to help those in need!
Restaurant Week gives you the opportunity to try a three course meal from a pre fixe menu at a participating restaurant of your choice for the prices of 19 dollars, 29 dollars, or 39 dollars per person. Whatever you choose and whatever you pay, you’re getting a great selection of food and trying what the restaurant believes is the best of the best of what they do!
There are dozens of restaurants to choose from, but here are our top picks at each price point! If you click on the restaurant name, you can see their entire menu option for Restaurant Week.
Croby’s Urban Viddles– As a newer restaurant in town, this simple spot has been getting rave reviews for their southern style fare. This is an order-at-the-counter style spot with a farmhouse feel (think wooden tables with white benches and large chalkboard walls). You might not want to come here for a fancy sit down dinner, but this is a great spot for a quick dinner before you visit Monticello or Carter’s Mountain, as it is quite nearby off of Mill Creek Drive. Fried Green Tomatoes, something they call a BBQ Sundae, and a delicious looking Vanilla Pineapple Cake are just some of the choices on the restaurant week menu!
Zocalo– For some Latin inspired cuisine on the Downtown Mall, Zocalo is a fantastic choice. The atmosphere is warm with low lighting, and the food always comes out looking beautiful. Their Restaurant Week menu has several choices, but we would probably choose the watermelon salad for an appetizer, the cuban flank steak for an entree, and the chocolate chile pot de creme for dessert. My mouth is watering just thinking about the options on this menu!
Public Fish & Oyster– This fantastic restaurant on West Main Street features East Coast caught seafood along with a focus on their raw bar. The inside has a classy, coastal feel with a large bar. All of the mouth watering options on their menu for restaurant makes it hard to choose, but we’re thinking the Broiled Oyster Au Gratin, the Moules Frite, and the Key Lime Pot De Creme would be our choices!
C & O– This unique restaurant in the historic downtown area has been serving Charlottesville since 1976 and boasts a history that dates back much further. It sits across the street from the old Chesapeake & Ohio train station (hence the name C & O), and it takes this history into consideration in the way that it is set up. There are five different seating areas, some indoor and some outdoor, that offer different atmospheres that somehow blend together to create an overall feel. Their website has great pictures and descriptions of each room and the history behind them if you’re wanting to know more. Of course, along with the history and atmosphere, the food is outstanding. From their Restaurant Week menu, we would probably choose the Roasted Scallops, Veal Saltimbocca, and Coupe Melba for dessert, though all of the options look fabulous!
Fleurie– For French inspired cuisine, try Fleurie on the Historic Downtown Mall. With a classy yet cozy and intimate vibe, this restaurant is perfect for a date night. Restaurant Week is the perfect time to go to Fleurie, as their special menu includes an impressive 6 options for both the appetizer and the entree. We love the sound of the Lobster Bisque, the Herb Crusted Halibut, and the Poached Peach with Mint Ice Cream for our choices, though everything sounds just perfect!
