4 Interesting Things to Do in May in Charlottesville

May is a very busy month with lots of things to do and places to go.  We’ve picked four events for you to go in May that promote artisans, singer/songwriters, craft brewers and local musicians.  Yes, there are other big name performers coming to Charlottesville in May – Dave Mathews Band and Willie Nelson to name just two – but these local artisans will appreciate your support.  In addition they are a lot of fun.

  1. Crozet Arts & Craft Festival – this is a premier festival with lots of artisans, everything from jewelry making to painting, to basket-weaving, to pottery, and more!  There are demonstrations for you to observe and participate in, music to listen to and great food to eat.  Come join us at the Festival on May 7-8 in Claudius Crozet Park.  Saturday 10:00-5:30, Sunday 10:00-5:00
  2. American Craft Brew Week Kick-off Party – one of our favorite local breweries is Three Notch’d Brewery and this year they are having a party to celebrate American Craft Brew Week.  They will be having events every day during the week ending with their annual pig roast on Saturday.  This is a great week of events so make sure you include at least one of the activities on your to-do list.  Kick-off Party is Monday May 16th, 4:00-10:00
  3. Mojo Pie at Albemarle Ciderworks –  with a name like that you can’t help but want to go hear their music.  Susan and Frank are local singer/songwriters that appear at numerous events around Charlottesville.  In addition you get to try some great cider and visit an orchard that grows vintage apples. Saturday May 21, 2:30-4:30.
  4. Tying in the Taproom at Starr Hill Brewery with Albemarle Angler – have you ever wanted to tie your own fly fishing lures?  or just see how it’s done?  It’s is a very intricate art that yields beautiful lures, some to good for their purpose!  Join a local fly fisher from Albemarle Angler to learn this craft.  And have a great Starr Hill brew at the same time!  Guests staying with us last month stumbled upon this event and had a great time!
