5 Things to Do in Charlottesville in May

We frequently get asked by our guests here at Foxfield Inn what there is to do in the Charlottesville area besides going to wineries, seeing Monticello or hiking the Blue Ridge mountains.  That’s why every month I try to come up with some unique and different things to do, places to go or music to listen to.  In May there are quite a few things happening so it was hard to decide which ones I should tell you about.  But, with that said, I finally decided.  We hope you get a chance to enjoy at least one of them.

Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival – Saturday and Sunday May 9 & 10, 10:00am Crozeet Arts Fest Photos_home_Fall_2012– 5:00pm.  This is the 35th year that this festival has taken place in the spring.  There are over 120 exhibitors showing their handcrafted items.  There are also food tents, live music and activities.  It’s a great way to spend Mother’s Day weekend.

Court Square Walking Tours – Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, tour times vary.  If you’ve always wanted to know about the early years of Charlottesville and it’s inhabits this is a great tour for you to take.  You will learn about our citizens, businesses and buildings from members of the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society.

Les Yeux du Monde presents Russ Warren: Zaragoza – May 8 to June 7, Thursdays through Sundays, 1:00 – 5:00pm. This exhibit highlights large multi-panel paintings done by the artist during the last two years.  These works of work were influenced by Russ’s favorite Spanish painters – including Velazquez, Goya and Picasso.  An opening reception will be held on Friday May 8th, 5:30 – 7:30.Cider 130319 056

Third Saturdays with Bill Adams at Albemarle Cider Works – Thursday, May 21, 3:00 – 5:00pm.  If you love finger pickin’ blues then you need to head to Albemarle Cider Works to listen to the old-time blues and music he plays.  Plus enjoy a glass of great cider!

Fridays ASONY DSCfter Five – every Friday, nTelos Wireless Pavilion, 5:30 – 8:30pm.  Enjoy free concerts while supporting charities.   There are many different styles of music so pick a Friday and see who is playing.  While there stop at the concessions to purchase food, handicrafts or whatever a local charity is selling that night.

Have a great month of May!
