Things to do in Charlottesville, VA – August 2014

In Charlottesville, August may bring on the heat of the dog days of summer, but the entertainment is just as hot. We’re squeezing in as many concerts, festivals, and wine tastings as we can before the college students once again take over the town at the end of the month!

Events at Monticello
You can visit Thomas Jefferson’s celebrated home any time of year, but here are some additional workshops

Fiddler on the Roof at the Paramount Theater

Saturday, August 9 (7-11pm)

Summer Concert Series at the Paramount Theater
Tuesday, August 12 (8-9:30pm)
The Charlottesville Municipal Band plays the best of the “big bands” in this free concert.

Saturday, August 16 (5-9pm)
Bring a non-perishable food donation for the local food pantry to receive half-off admission. Enjoy good wine, good music, and good food.

Blue Ridge Mountain Music Festival at Wintergreen Resort

Celebrate the best of our region’s musical heritage. The sounds of bluegrass, old time, and Americana will be strummed, plucked, and sung by some of our region’s most talented ensembles. A mountain retreat is the perfect setting for mountain music.

Mosaic Lessons at FIREFISH Gallery
Thursday, August 21 (5:30-8pm)
A fun idea for a date night or girls’ night out. Learn how to create a mosaic mirror, flower pot, or tray and take your creation home. Early reservations recommended.

Night at the Museum at Kluge Ruhe Aboriginal Art Museum
Thursday, August 21 (5-9pm)
The Aboriginal Art Museum always has an interesting exhibition on display, but on this evening they are pulling out all the stops in an after-hours celebration complete with live music, beer from local Devil’s Backbone Brewing, food trucks, and more.

Virginia Craft Brewers Fest at Devil’s Backbone Brewery
Saturday, August 23 (2-7pm)
Craft beer enthusiasts, unite! August is Craft Brewers month in Virginia. Raise a glass and partake in the celebratory festivities at popular Devil’s Backbone Brewery. Paint the Town Orange
Friday, August 29 (7:30-9:30pm)
Beginning on the Downtown Mall, UVA’s Cavalier Marching Band will get Charlottesville ready for the start of football season. Put on your orange shirts and learn the words to the Good Ole Song to get in the spirit.
