A short drive south will bring you to Scottsville and the last pole-operated ferry in America. Once the vehicle of our country’s westward expansion, summer is the perfect time to take a ride across the James River and check out the fascinating historical exhibits.

Strawberry Picking at Critzer Family Farm

It’s hard to beat the taste of freshly picked strawberries. Now that strawberry season is upon us, why not spend an afternoon picking some of your own?

Thursdays (6-9pm)
A popular setting to enjoy live music, food, shopping in the country store, and one of the best views in Charlottesville. Prince Michel wines are available for tasting.
Tailgate Thursdays at Stinson Vineyards

Enjoy live music, wine, and grilled meats at nearby Stinson Vineyards. A great way to relax and unwind into summer.

Summer Kickoff at Devil’s Backbone
Sunday, June 22 (1-6pm)
At Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company, they sure know how to throw a good party. Celebrate the start of summer with their draft beers, outdoor music, Tres Agave margaritas in a keepsake shaker, grilled sausages and kebobs, ice cream, and cornhole.
Afton After Hours at Afton Mountain Vineyard
Saturday, June 28 (6-8:30pm)
Bring along a Foxfield Inn picnic or purchase pizza from Blue Ridge Pizza Company on-site. Enjoy live music rain or shine.
Ongoing summer events:
Fridays After Five (Fridays, 5:30-8:30pm) – Catch a free concert at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion on the Downtown Mall before your dinner date. Concessions available to purchase.
City Market (Saturdays, 7am-noon) – Pick up a cup of coffee or artisanal lemonade and a pastry to wander the stalls for fresh produce, flowers, and unique gifts.
