Sundays
Salsa at Rapture’s Club R2
Lesson at 8 P.M., Dance at 9 P.M.
This popular class is always a hit. Enjoy the rhythms of salsa, merengue, and cha cha, and be sure to stay for the social dance.
Our own Jessalyn takes a break from contra dancing to pose with friends and instructors. |
2nd and 4th Sundays of each month
Contra Dancing at Greenwood Community Center
(also 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month at Municipal Arts Center)
Lesson at 7:30 P.M., Dance at 8 P.M.
Evolved from English country line dancing, contra dancing somewhat resembles line dancing and is great fun. You and your partner interact with other couples down the line, following movement patterns dictated by a caller. Be sure to get there early for the beginner’s workshop where you will learn the “swing” and maybe even the steps for the first dance.
Tuesdays
Tango at Charlottesville Tango
Lesson at 7 P.M., Practica follows
Perhaps one of the most intimate of the social dances, learning the Argentine Tango will help you practice patience, openness, and humility with your loved one.
Beginner Lessons at Terry Dean’s Ballroom Dance Studio
8:15 P.M.
If you’re shy about dancing with strangers, perhaps the Tuesday night couples-only “It Takes Two” beginner classes at Terry Dean’s Dance Studio is more your style. Or, check the calendar for upcoming classes – rumba, waltz, mambo, oh my!
Thursdays
(4th Thursday of each month)
Crash Course in selected Swing Style at Odd Fellow’s Monticello Lodge
Lesson 7:30 P.M., Social dance until 10 P.M.
Offering a unique range of introductory lessons to the various styles of swing dancing, this Cville Swing experience is tremendous fun. Check the calendar for upcoming styles including East Coast, Lindy Hop, and Charleston.
