It’s the most colorful time of the year here at Foxfield Inn: fall color is peaking in Central Virginia, and that means it’s time for leaf-peeping! We’ve rounded up some of the best spots to view fall color, so bring your cameras and come be immersed in the beauty of the Blue Ridge.
The Blue Ridge Mountains offer spectacular fall color. |
For the wine-lover… If your idea of a perfect afternoon is sipping a glass of wine while breathing in clean air and taking in the beauty of the landscape, head to Veritas Vineyard & Winery or King Family Vineyards where you can sample local wines indoors or out on expansive patios and porches with breathtaking views.
Dan captured this shot at nearby Mint Springs Valley Park. King Family Vineyards is just down the road. |
For the history buff… Want to experience Monticello as Thomas Jefferson would have seen it in the fall? Be sure to take in the varied color and shape of this garden afficionado’s grounds, especially if you’ve visited previously during other seasons. As you head back down the mountain, be sure to stop off at the Monticello walking trail area for an easy-going stroll into the heart of a mature forest where falling leaves can be nothing short of magical.
For the outdoor enthusiast…If working up your heart-rate helps you appreciate your surroundings, how about opting for a canoe or kayak trip down the Shenandoah or James Rivers? Most companies recommend making reservations in advance. Check out James River Runners in nearby Scottsville or Shenandoah River Adventures just past Harrisonburg for more information, and be sure to bring your cameras to document a unique perspective.
If you’re up for a drive… You simply can’t beat the scenic views on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Linking Shenandoah National Park with the Great Smoky Mountain National park, the parkway extends through Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina with some of the most breathtaking overlooks that attract thousands of visitors each fall. You can get on the Parkway at the top of nearby Afton Mountain and head either north or south for as long as you’d like, stopping at scenic overlooks for a photo as you desire.
Or how about in our own backyard? It doesn’t get much more relaxing than that. We can’t wait for you to experience the beauty of autumn with us here at Foxfield Inn. Let us know how we can make your fall visit an unforgettable experience. Do you have additional suggestions for places to view the leaves?
