Swimming Holes -
Blue Hole about a 15 minute drive from Inn
Advice from previous guests: Attached is a
photo of the Blue Hole swimming hole. There’s also a smaller hole
just downstream. The directions on the web site could be
misleading. They say follow the directions to Snake Hole which say
drive as far as you can go to get to the parking area. For Blue
Hole you need to park at the first parking area after the reservoir
which is not as far as you can go. Cross the stream at the parking
area and scramble up the opposite bank to the fire road. Take the
road up and to the right for about 2 miles. There is one stream
crossing and the rocks are very slippery – so there’s a good chance
you’ll get wet feet. It’s a nice hike even if you don’t go
swimming. For guests that are interested in hiking, I would
recommend this trail as well as the one to Snake Hole. They are
especially nice in the summer because they are shaded most of the
way and you can always cool off in the streams. Even the drive to
the trail head is very nice. The Rivanna Trails would probably be
too short for anyone who hikes regularly. Thanks again for your
hospitality.Bob and Laura
